Day 1
Colombo to Kandy – 3hr 30 Min – 147 Km
Arrive in Colombo, where you will be welcomed and assisted with your transfer to Kandy. On the way, visit the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, home to over 70 orphaned elephants. Established in 1975, the orphanage initially housed five abandoned baby elephants. Vijaya, Neela, Kadira, Mathlee, and Kumari. Today, it is one of Sri Lanka’s top tourist attractions. Upon arrival in Kandy, check in to your hotel and relax for the evening. Overnight stay in Kandy.
Day 2
Temple of Tooth Relic & Peradeniya Botanical Garden
Breakfast at the hotel. Begin your sightseeing with a visit to the Temple of the Tooth Relic, a sacred site that houses the revered relic of Buddha. It is believed that whoever safeguards this relic holds the power to rule the country, making it a significant symbol of Sinhalese heritage and pride. Next, explore the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, renowned for its diverse collection of tropical plants. Spread across 59 hectares (146 acres), the garden is home to around 4,000 plant species, making it a paradise for nature lovers. Later, visit the gem museum to learn about Sri Lanka’s famous gemstones. In the evening, enjoy a mesmerizing traditional dance performance, where talented dancers captivate the audience with their energetic and soulful moves. A must-see cultural experience in Kandy. Day 3
Kandy to Nuwara Eliya – 2hr 45 Min – 78 Km
Breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast, check out and embark on a scenic journey to Nuwara Eliya, often referred to as "Little England" for its colonial charm and cool climate. En route, visit the revered Hanuman Temple, a site of great significance in the Ramayana epic. According to legend, this is where Lord Hanuman rested while searching for Goddess Sita. Next, marvel at the breathtaking Ramboda Falls, a stunning waterfall cascading from a height of approximately 109 meters, offering a picturesque view and a refreshing atmosphere. Continue your journey with a visit to a Tea Plantation and Tea Factory, where you can witness the intricate process of tea production, from plucking the leaves to processing and packaging. Enjoy a freshly brewed cup of Ceylon tea while learning about Sri Lanka’s world-renowned tea industry. Upon arrival in Nuwara Eliya, embark on a sightseeing tour of the city. Visit the sacred Sita Amman Temple, believed to be the place where Goddess Sita was held captive by King Ravana. The temple holds immense religious significance and is an important pilgrimage site for devotees. Next, explore the Hakgala Botanical Garden, home to a vast collection of exotic flora, including vibrant orchids, roses, and towering trees. The garden, located at a high elevation, offers a tranquil retreat amidst lush greenery. Day 4
Nuwara Eliya to Bentota – 5hr 40min – 210 Km
Breakfast at the hotel. After enjoying your morning meal, check out and proceed towards Bentota. On the way, make a stop at the Devon Falls View Point, where you can admire the breathtaking scenery and capture some beautiful photographs of the cascading waterfall set amidst lush greenery. Continue your journey to Kithulgala, known for its adventurous White Water Rafting experience. Enjoy an exciting rafting session on the Kelani River, perfect for both beginners and adventure enthusiasts. Safety gear and professional guidance will be provided. After the activity, resume your drive to Bentota. Overnight stay in Bentota.
Day 5
Bentota – Visit Turtle Farm, Watersports, Madu River Boat Safari & City Tour
Breakfast at the hotel. After your morning meal, proceed to begin your day’s sightseeing in Bentota. Start with a visit to the Turtle Hatchery, where you can learn about the conservation efforts to protect endangered sea turtles and see the various stages of their life cycle. Next, head to the watersports area, where you can enjoy exciting optional activities such as jet skiing, banana boat rides, parasailing, or speed boat rides. Perfect for adventure lovers. Continue your day with a serene Madu River Boat Safari, where you will cruise through mangrove forests, small islands, and spot local wildlife. It is a peaceful and scenic experience, offering beautiful views and a glimpse of rural life along the river. Wrap up the day with a Bentota c ity tour, exploring the local markets, beaches, and surroundings at your leisure. Overnight stay in Bentota.
Day 6
Bentota to Colombo – 1hr 35 Min – 85 Km
Breakfast at the hotel. After enjoying your breakfast, check out from the hotel and begin your journey towards Colombo, the commercial capital and largest city of Sri Lanka. The drive offers a pleasant change of scenery as you move from the coastal charm of Bentota to the vibrant urban atmosphere of Colombo. Upon arrival, check in at your hotel. Take some time to relax and settle into your room. The rest of the day is free for leisure. You may explore the nearby areas at your own pace, visit local markets, enjoy café hopping, or simply unwind at the hotel. Overnight stay in Colombo.
Day 7
Colombo City Tour
Breakfast at hotel. Embark on a sightseeing and shopping tour, exploring the city's blend of colonial charm and modern attractions. Visit key landmarks such as the historic Galle Face Green, a scenic oceanfront promenade, and the Old Parliament Building, an architectural masterpiece from the colonial era. Drive past Independence Square, a monument celebrating Sri Lanka’s independence from British rule, and visit the Gangaramaya Temple, one of Colombo’s most significant Buddhist temples, known for its rich history and stunning artwork. For shopping enthusiasts, explore Colombo’s vibrant markets and upscale shopping malls. Visit Pettah Market, a bustling bazaar offering everything from textiles to spices, or shop for high-quality Sri Lankan souvenirs, handicrafts, and gems at stores like Odel, Paradise Road, and Lakpahana. If you’re looking for designer brands and luxury items, head to malls like One Galle Face or Colombo City Centre. Overnight stay at Colombo.

Departure

Things to Look Out For
Two monsoons, two coasts
Sri Lanka runs two opposite monsoons on one small island. The south-west coast and the hill country are dry December to March; the east coast around Trincomalee and Arugam Bay is dry May to September, when the south-west is wet. There is almost always a dry coast. You just have to be on the right one for the month.
The hill-country train
The Kandy-to-Ella line through the tea estates is one of the great slow train rides anywhere. Book a second-class reserved seat in advance, not first class, because the windows and doors open and everyone hangs out for the Nine Arch Bridge. The blue trains are the old ones and the better ride.
Climb Sigiriya at opening
Sigiriya, the rock fortress in the cultural triangle, bakes by mid-morning and the stairs back up out of the frescoes gallery bottleneck with tour groups. Be at the gate when it opens at seven; you climb in the cool, beat the heat and the crowds, and have the lion's-paw summit nearly to yourself.

When to Go
The headline season for the classic south-west-and-hill-country route is December to March, when Colombo, the Galle coast, Kandy and the tea highlands are at their driest and the seas are calm for the beaches. May to September swings the rain to the south-west and dries out the east coast instead. The window for Trincomalee and the surf at Arugam Bay. April and October-November are the inter-monsoon months, hot and prone to afternoon storms anywhere.
