    Things to Look Out For

    field notes
    1

India is not one country, climate-wise

Rajasthan in February reads dry-cold; Kerala in February reads humid-warm; Sikkim in February might be under snow. Pack for the specific itinerary, not 'India in general'. Tibro's per-state tours are tuned to one climate at a time. Don't try to chain three of them back-to-back.

    2

    Tipping is structured, not arbitrary

Driver tips at ₹500-1000 per day, guide tips at ₹500-1000 per half-day, hotel housekeeping ₹100 per day, restaurant 10% on top of any service charge already listed. Hand the driver/guide an envelope on the last day rather than tipping daily. It is more dignified for them.

    3

Tap water and ice are a real consideration

Every Tibro-tier hotel provides sealed bottled water in the room daily. Use it for brushing your teeth too. At restaurants, ask for "sealed bottled water" specifically. Some places will pour from a filtered jug, which is fine in some kitchens and not in others. Ice is the hidden trap; ask for "no ice" with cold drinks unless the hotel makes its own.

    When to Go

India has three windows for travel. October–March is the cool/dry season. The headline window, when most of the subcontinent is at its most welcoming. April–June is hot and increasingly dangerous in the north plains. July–September is the southwest monsoon. Beautiful for Kerala Ayurveda lovers, hard for sightseeing. This Kerala tour sits squarely in the post-monsoon clear window.

Kerala has two monsoons (southwest Jun–Aug heavy; northeast Oct–Nov a brief secondary). The Winters 25-26 departure window avoids both. Ayurveda treatments traditionally peak with the monsoon, but the tour itinerary itself works best in dry season.

    Your Memoir

    Here's how you'll remember it.

    Nohkalikai falls — Cherrapunjee, India

Day 2. Nohkalikai falls, looking down into the gorge

    Day2
    ✦ Memoir

Nohkalikai drops about 340 metres in a single fall. The tallest plunge in India. And the viewpoint is right at the edge. The local name carries a story: a woman named Ka Likai threw herself off this cliff after a terrible discovery, and the village still talks about it. The mist clears in patches and you see the pool at the bottom turn pale green.

    Cherrapunjee01
Jaintia hill stones — Shillong, India

Day 3. Jaintia hill stones, the monoliths at Nartiang

    Day3
    ✦ Memoir

The Nartiang monoliths are a Jaintia royal site. The tallest single stone is eight metres tall, raised in the 16th century without a crane. The whole cluster is in a small grove, and Khasi villagers still come to leave offerings. The custodian opens the gate when you arrive and explains the family that put each one up.

    Shillong02
    Dawki — Shillong, India

Day 4. Dawki, the Umngot river at noon

    Day4
    ✦ Memoir

The Umngot at Dawki is so clear in the dry season the boats look airborne. You can see the riverbed five metres down. The Bangladesh border is just past the rocks. Our boatman pointed out the line and the customs huts on the other side, then turned us around and rowed back into the green water.

    Shillong03
Living root bridge — Cherrapunjee, India

Day 5. Living root bridge, double-decker at Nongriat

    Day5
    ✦ Memoir

The double-decker root bridge is a 3,500-step descent into a Khasi forest. Your knees feel it on the way back up. The villagers train ficus elastica roots across the stream over decades; the bridges are alive and they grow stronger. Two children were diving off the lower deck into the pool. It was unremarkable to them.
