    Things to Look Out For

    field notes
    1

India is not one country, climate-wise

Rajasthan in February reads dry-cold; Kerala in February reads humid-warm; Sikkim in February might be under snow. Pack for the specific itinerary, not 'India in general'. Tibro's per-state tours are tuned to one climate at a time. Don't try to chain three of them back-to-back.

    2

    Tipping is structured, not arbitrary

Driver tips at ₹500-1000 per day, guide tips at ₹500-1000 per half-day, hotel housekeeping ₹100 per day, restaurant 10% on top of any service charge already listed. Hand the driver/guide an envelope on the last day rather than tipping daily. It is more dignified for them.

    3

Tap water and ice are a real consideration

Every Tibro-tier hotel provides sealed bottled water in the room daily. Use it for brushing your teeth too. At restaurants, ask for "sealed bottled water" specifically. Some places will pour from a filtered jug, which is fine in some kitchens and not in others. Ice is the hidden trap; ask for "no ice" with cold drinks unless the hotel makes its own.

    Plan Your Timing

    When to Go

India has three windows for travel. October–March is the cool/dry season. The headline window, when most of the subcontinent is at its most welcoming. April–June is hot and increasingly dangerous in the north plains. July–September is the southwest monsoon. Beautiful for Kerala Ayurveda lovers, hard for sightseeing. This Kerala tour sits squarely in the post-monsoon clear window.

Kerala has two monsoons (southwest Jun–Aug heavy; northeast Oct–Nov a brief secondary). The Winters 25-26 departure window avoids both. Ayurveda treatments traditionally peak with the monsoon, but the tour itinerary itself works best in dry season.

    Your Memoir

    Here's how you'll remember it.

    Jagannath darshan — Puri, India

Day 1. Jagannath darshan, evening aarti

    Day1
    ✦ Memoir

The Jagannath temple at Puri has its own clock. The koili baikuntha at the back, the kitchen that cooks for thousands every day, the Ananda Bazaar where prasad is sold by weight. Phones and cameras stay outside. The crowd thins just before the evening aarti, and the priests don't rush you.

    Puri01
Konark Sun Temple — Konark, India

Day 2. Konark Sun Temple, the carved wheels

    Day2
    ✦ Memoir

Konark is a chariot in stone, twelve carved wheels, seven horses pulling. And the guide will spend a long time on the erotic friezes near the base. Most of the original tower is gone, fallen in the 18th century. What's left is still big enough that you walk around it twice before you've seen everything.

    Konark02
    Mangalajodi boat — Chilika, India

Day 3. Mangalajodi dawn boat, the godwits

    Day3
    ✦ Memoir

Mangalajodi is the bird end of Chilika lagoon. A fishing village that turned into a conservation success story, and the old poachers now run the boats. We were out before sunrise in winter. Painted storks, godwits, and a pair of ruddy shelducks; the guide knew every one of them by their Odia names and their Latin ones.

    Chilika03
Hirapur yogini temple — Bhubaneswar, India

Day 5. Hirapur yogini temple, the sixty-four niches

    Day5
    ✦ Memoir

The 64-yogini temple at Hirapur is a small open-air circle on the edge of Bhubaneswar. One of only four in the country. Each yogini gets her own niche, each with a different hairstyle, each holding a different attribute. There were two other visitors. The priest unlocked the gate and let us walk the full circle alone.
