    Things to Look Out For

    field notes
    1

India is not one country, climate-wise

Rajasthan in February reads dry-cold; Kerala in February reads humid-warm; Sikkim in February might be under snow. Pack for the specific itinerary, not 'India in general'. Tibro's per-state tours are tuned to one climate at a time. Don't try to chain three of them back-to-back.

    2

    Tipping is structured, not arbitrary

Driver tips at ₹500-1000 per day, guide tips at ₹500-1000 per half-day, hotel housekeeping ₹100 per day, restaurant 10% on top of any service charge already listed. Hand the driver/guide an envelope on the last day rather than tipping daily. It is more dignified for them.

    3

Tap water and ice are a real consideration

Every Tibro-tier hotel provides sealed bottled water in the room daily. Use it for brushing your teeth too. At restaurants, ask for "sealed bottled water" specifically. Some places will pour from a filtered jug, which is fine in some kitchens and not in others. Ice is the hidden trap; ask for "no ice" with cold drinks unless the hotel makes its own.

    Plan Your Timing

    When to Go

India has three windows for travel. October–March is the cool/dry season. The headline window, when most of the subcontinent is at its most welcoming. April–June is hot and increasingly dangerous in the north plains. July–September is the southwest monsoon. Beautiful for Kerala Ayurveda lovers, hard for sightseeing. This Kerala tour sits squarely in the post-monsoon clear window.

Kerala has two monsoons (southwest Jun–Aug heavy; northeast Oct–Nov a brief secondary). The Winters 25-26 departure window avoids both. Ayurveda treatments traditionally peak with the monsoon, but the tour itinerary itself works best in dry season.

    Your Memoir

    Here's how you'll remember it.

Sarnath — Sarnath, India / Nepal

Day 2. Sarnath, the deer park

    Day2
    ✦ Memoir

Sarnath is where the Buddha gave his first sermon. The Dhamek stupa is 5th-century brick, 33 metres high, on the spot where the dharma was set in motion. The Mulagandhakuti vihara nearby holds the resident sangha; the deer still graze the lawns where the original sermon was given.

    Sarnath01
Mahabodhi tree — Bodh Gaya, India / Nepal

Day 4. Mahabodhi tree, the fifth sapling

    Day4
    ✦ Memoir

The Mahabodhi temple at Bodh Gaya sits beside the Bodhi tree under which the Buddha attained enlightenment. The current tree is the fifth sapling from the original, replanted in 1881. The temple is 7th century, UNESCO listed. The Tibetan and Thai monasteries surround the complex.

    Bodh Gaya02
Lumbini — Lumbini, India / Nepal

Day 7. Lumbini, the Asoka pillar

    Day7
    ✦ Memoir

Lumbini is the Buddha's birthplace in southern Nepal. The Maya Devi temple marks the exact spot under a sal tree. The Asoka pillar nearby was erected in 249 BCE; its inscription names this as Buddha's birthplace, the oldest archaeological evidence of the site. The Korean and Japanese monasteries on the grounds are open to visitors.

    Lumbini03
Shravasti — Shravasti, India / Nepal

    Day 9. Shravasti, Jetavana grove

    Day9
    ✦ Memoir

Shravasti is where the Buddha spent twenty-four monsoons. The Jetavana grove was the monastery donated by Anathapindika. The Saheth-Maheth ruins mark the spot; brick foundations of the original gandhakuti, the Buddha's cottage. Quieter than the main pilgrim sites. Most tour groups don't stop here.
