    Things to Look Out For

    field notes
    1

India is not one country, climate-wise

Rajasthan in February reads dry-cold; Kerala in February reads humid-warm; Sikkim in February might be under snow. Pack for the specific itinerary, not 'India in general'. Tibro's per-state tours are tuned to one climate at a time. Don't try to chain three of them back-to-back.

    2

    Tipping is structured, not arbitrary

Driver tips at ₹500-1000 per day, guide tips at ₹500-1000 per half-day, hotel housekeeping ₹100 per day, restaurant 10% on top of any service charge already listed. Hand the driver/guide an envelope on the last day rather than tipping daily. It is more dignified for them.

    3

Tap water and ice are a real consideration

Every Tibro-tier hotel provides sealed bottled water in the room daily. Use it for brushing your teeth too. At restaurants, ask for "sealed bottled water" specifically. Some places will pour from a filtered jug, which is fine in some kitchens and not in others. Ice is the hidden trap; ask for "no ice" with cold drinks unless the hotel makes its own.

    When to Go

Rajasthan runs on a hard calendar. October to March is the season — clear light, cold desert nights, every fort and lake at its best. April to June is genuinely dangerous heat, 45°C and climbing in the desert districts. July to September brings a thin monsoon that greens the Aravallis without ever really cooling them.

December and January nights in the desert drop close to freezing. Jaisalmer and Bikaner need proper layers after dark, which catches most first-time visitors out. Off-season departures trade some of the weather for materially lower hotel rates than the peak window.

    Your Memoir

    Here's how you'll remember it.

Discover the tranquility and rich heritage of Saheliyon Ki Bari in Udaipur, Rajasthan

Day 1. Ambrai ghat at golden hour

    Day1
    ✦ Memoir

We arrived in the afternoon and walked straight to Ambrai ghat. The steps across from the Lake Palace, where the photographers sit at sundown. The Aravallis on the far shore had gone dusty pink. A dhobi was beating sheets on a flat stone; the rhythm carried across the water.

Day 2. City Palace, the third courtyard

    Day2
    ✦ Memoir

The City Palace is enormous and the third courtyard is the one to wait for. Small rooms with original glasswork, balconies looking down on Pichola, and a guide who'd been there twenty years. He pointed out which mirror inlays were Belgian and which were Chinese, by the way they caught the light.

Day 3. Kumbhalgarh wall, the long stretch

    Day3
    ✦ Memoir

Kumbhalgarh's wall runs 36 kilometres and you can walk a long stretch of it without seeing another soul. The Aravallis go on in every direction. The guide said it's the second-longest in the world, after the Great one. We sat on the parapet eating gathiya and didn't talk for a while.

Day 3. Chittorgarh, Vijay Stambh at noon

    Day3
    ✦ Memoir

Chittorgarh's Vijay Stambh is nine storeys of carved sandstone, built in 1448 to commemorate a Mewar victory. The interior stairs spiral tight; the carving goes top to bottom. We climbed in twelve minutes and the view from the top opened the whole plateau.
